It is said that "God inhabits the praise of his people" and I believe that to be true. We praise God for not only what he does-his creation, his blessing, his forgiveness- but also for who he is- loving, faithful, good, just, righteous, patient. When we are praising God the focus of our thoughts change-our focus is moved from our self (our problems, our worries, our fears etc.) to the One who is worthy of our every thought (and the One who can handle our self stuff). Praising not only exalts God but it also encourages the believer to trust and hope in him for our future.
Remember what Philippians 4:8 encourages us to do? "Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things." What could be more excellent, pure, noble, right and lovely than our God? Considering all that God has done for us, what could be more natural (more right) than to Praise him?
